Greetings from Evangelical Baptist Church!
So, "What's an Evangelical Baptist?" you ask. We are Evangelical in that we are committed to "the defense and confirmation of the gospel"
(Phil. 1:7). The central tenets of the Evangelical faith were best summed up in the popular slogans of the Reformation, the five "Solas" (Latin for "alone" or "only"). Soli Deo Gloria
(to God alone be the glory) means all God's acts bring Him glory, honor, and praise. This is especially so in God's work of rescuing sinners. Sola Scriptura
(Scripture alone) emphasizes the sole source of authority for our faith and practice as residing in the Bible. Sola Gratia
(grace alone) reminds us that God's saving of sinners is based exclusively upon His grace and not upon any merit or worthiness in us. Solus Christus
(Christ alone) proclaims the truth that God acted uniquely in the Person and work of Jesus Christ to reconcile the world to Himself (2 Cor. 5:19). And, finally,Sola Fide
(faith alone) states plainly that we are assured of good standing before God only by virtue of our faith, our trust in what Jesus Christ accomplished for us on the cross of Calvary.
We also believe and practice the Baptist distinctives: the observance of the two ordinances of The Lord's Table and believers' baptism by immersion; the independence of the local church; the priesthood of believers; and a regenerate (saved, believing) church membership.
Finally, we are, as a church, called to be "the household of God,...the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth" (1 Tim. 3:15). We are commanded to "contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints" (Jude 3). Each and every Christian is called to "guard the deposit" of the historic Christian faith in his or her generation (1 Tim. 6:20).
We invite you to visit our congregation and encourage you to explore for yourself in the pages of God's Word, the Bible, the wondrous work He has done through Christ to give us the gift of eternal life.
